Pendant lights and chandeliers both hang from the ceiling, but they’re built a little differently and tend to serve different roles in a room.

A pendant light usually has a single light source that hangs down from a cord, rod, or chain. The design is often simple and compact, which makes pendants useful for lighting specific areas like kitchens, dining rooms, or hallways.

A chandelier is typically larger and has multiple light sources branching out from a central frame. Because of that structure, chandeliers spread light across a wider area and tend to have more visual presence in the room.

The scale is usually different too. Pendants are often smaller and more minimal, while chandeliers are meant to anchor a space, especially over dining tables, entryways, or larger living rooms.

So while both hang from the ceiling, pendant lights usually focus on lighting one area, while chandeliers act as a central ceiling fixture that lights and defines the whole space.
